throwing a dart

October 31, 2009.  Halloween?  Nope.  That’s the date we are scheduled to arrive in Cameroon.  Sounds very auspicious.  (Thankfully, the 31st isn’t a full moon, so no goblins in the forecast!)

But what’s in a date?  We’re already half there. And we can’t wait to share the experiences this opportunity will bring us.

Two years, two volunteers and two perspectives:

–       Two years to learn, grow, exchange, share, explore.

–       Two years to absorb, take in, soak up, discover.

–       Two years to believe, hope, dream.

–       Two years to participate, engage.

–       Two years to live out our passion.

In case you’ve been snoozing (or, heaven forbid we withheld crucial details from you!) here’s the scoop.  We’ll spend the next two years serving as “professional volunteers” posted with CUSO-VSO’s partners in Maroua (in the Far North Province).

Cameroon you ask? How did this happen?  Don’t worry, we did not live out our fantasy by throwing a dart at a map of the world and choosing to go there! CUSO-VSO matched our skills to wherever they would be most useful.  Anywhere in the world became Cameroon.  Dart or no dart, we’re off!

Above all, we simply cannot wait to reach Maroua, get to know our work colleagues, the community and “get going” with the ins and outs of our work there for the next two years. While we have maniacally researched and investigated, asked countless questions, and beaten many bushes, we still know very little about this place we will be calling home.  And that, in so many ways, is the beauty of the adventure.

We are so glad you are joining us. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you.

Stay tuned!
